Academy for a Learning Democracy

We are convinced that the idea of a learning democracy is only the beginning of a social miracle of productivity that will make our democracies fit and robust for the 21st century. Because: We can do it better, much better - we can do it together!

To achieve our vision of a Learning Democracy, we want to put Democracy Policy on the political agenda: We must establish Democracy Policy as a policy area. Democracy policy means taking care of democratic processes and actors, which are the prerequisites for our democratic performance, in a professional and participatory way.

It should set two priorities: Public Human Resources Development takes care of the personnel (from citizens to politicians) of our democracy. In Democracy Development we focus on the processes by which the various individuals and organisations jointly shape politics.

Occasionally, such processes of democracy and human resources development are already taking place, but they do not yet have an overarching structure, conception and methodology. That is why we want to professionalise democracy development. This means that the processes of democratic cooperation, problem-solving and shaping the future should be dealt with professionally and systematically - both scientifically-theoretically and practically.

Our mission is, therefore, to further develop (R+D), teach (Training) and disseminate (Campaign) these ideas of learning democracy and democratic politics.
