Our vision is that our societies and political systems become learning democracies that learn faster than problems become dangerous. In a Learning Democracy the political and social structures are constantly being adapted to new developments and demands. That doesn't mean that we need new politcal systems and institutions. It just means that we need mechanisms that help to adapt our existing processes and institutions if it is necessary.
For a democracy to learn and reflect like that, we need to work together. We need diverse people from different backgrounds, sectors and corners of society to contribute with their ideas, opinions and inventions. Because if the problems we are facing are diverse, the answers need to be diverse as well. Participation, therefore, is inherent to our vision.
Nevertheless we need professionals, which can bring those people and ideas together and mediate between them; Professionals, which keep the learning process going and that guide the process. We also need infrastructure and tools for a Learning Democracy in the form of procedural methods and political innovations.
Ultimately, we want to strengthen the trust in the possibilities and effectiveness of our democracies. To oppose the fatalism, mistrust and fear that lead to extremism and populism, we have the confidence to say: We can do better, much better - we can do it together!
